DO I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A PROMOTIONAL MODEL? - HOW DO I GET STARTED?
A promotional model, also known as a brand ambassador, is a person employed by a promotional agency to provide direct interaction with potential consumers in order increase demand for a product, service, brand, or concept. Product knowledge, friendly and approachable personality and impeccable presentation are essential to being a highly sought after promotional model.
Promotional models can be employed to represent a variety products ranging from beverage companies (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), motor companies, consumer brands, cosmetics, special events, fashion labels and many more.
It is essential that Promotional models have an attractive physical appearance, as their image reflects on the brand or company he/she is representing. Promotional Models must be approachable, have excellent people skills, be able to speak intelligently about a brand or product and have a professional approach at all times.
Once accepted by an agency it is important to ensure excellent performance at each job. Any professional agency such as PMA will not provide talent with ongoing work if they were late, unpleasant, had poor presentation or caused issues during the job.
What Will I Need To Provide For My Application To Join An Agency?
- Photographs: This doesn't mean candid shots, but rather shots of you up close without a lot of makeup and on a plain background. You should capture them in nice natural light without a lot of distraction in the photos. The purpose of these is for agencies to get a look at you in a raw natural state. Ideally provide and head shot and a full length body shot.
If you wish to expand your portfolio or start out in the corporate field, PMA can provide you with list of PMA recommended photographers who are well recognised within the industry for holding an excellent reputation.
- Resume and References
- Tax File Number and Nominated Super Fund
- Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate (on request)
- Measurements and Personal stats such as height, dress size, hair colour, eye colour and ethnicity.
- Location you reside in and availability to work
Be Mindful Of Scams
Unfortunately Modelling scams are very real and very easy to fall victim to. They are very common as they play off the hopes and dreams of the innocent. It's sad to say but most models strike scams several times in their modelling profession. Be wary of any agency that asks for money up front. Any professional and reputable agency will receive their profits through commission - therefore meaning they invoice the client for the assignment, allowing for all of the associated expenses, essentially leaving an additional amount as ‘profits’. If you don't work, then they don't get paid.
